Configuring the Home Page Settings in Chrome

Google Chrome allows you to easily modify its home page settings, giving you full control over what gets loaded each time you open a new tab/window or click on the browser'sHome button. By default, Chrome's New Tab page is displayed in these instances. TheNew Tab page serves as a virtual docking station for all of your apps, bookmarks, and frequently visited websites.

While the New Tab page is considered to be very useful by many, others may want to specify a particular URL as their home page. This can be done in just a few steps, and this tutorial walks you through the process on all three platforms.

First, open your Google Chrome browser.

Click on Chrome's main menu button, represented by three horizontal lines and circled in the example above. When the drop-down menu appears, select the choice labeledSettings.

Chrome's Options should now be displayed in a new tab or window, depending on your settings. Click on Settings in the left menu pane, if it is not already selected. Next, locate the Appearance section.

By default, the Home button is not visible on Chrome's main toolbar and the Show Home button option is disabled. First, activate this option by clicking on the empty check box.

The Home button should now be displayed in Chrome's address bar, along with an added option directly below the Show Home button setting. The default behavior of the Homebutton is to load Chrome's New Tab page. To specify a particular URL as your home page, click on the Change link (circled in the example above).

The Home page dialog should now be displayed, as shown in the example above. First, click on the Open this page: radio button to activate that option. Next, enter the desired URL of your new home page. Finally, once you are satisfied with your new setting, click on the OK button.
